Di(µ-chloro)dichlorobis(pentamethylcyclopentadiene)dirhodium(III) serves as a versatile catalyst in various chemical transformations. This burgundy solid is instrumental in oxidative olefination reactions, enabling the cleavage of carbon-carbon bonds in secondary alcohols, and facilitating the ortho C-H olefination of phenol derivatives. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in the oxidative annulation of pyridines and the oxidative ortho-acylation of benzamides with aldehydes through direct functionalization of the sp² C-H bond. The compound is also adept at catalyzing amidation, reductive alkylation, and both regular and chiral hydrogenation reactions. It finds application in functionalizing acetanilides under solvent-free conditions using a ball mill, conducting regioselective C-H arylation of indoles with aryl boronic acids, and performing the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of imines in water. Furthermore, it facilitates the rhodium-catalyzed synthesis of fluorinated pyridines and the alkylation of azobenzenes with allyl acetates.
