Application
Copper oxychloride, chemically known as dicopperchloridetrihydroxide (Cu2(OH)3Cl), serves multiple purposes, with its primary application being a highly effective agricultural fungicide. This green powder, also referred to as basic copper chloride, is crucial in controlling fungal diseases in crops such as potatoes, where it is used at a concentration of 2.50g/L to combat early and late blight. Beyond its role in agriculture, copper oxychloride is used as a color agent in glass and ceramics, and also finds application in pyrotechnics. Although it is largely insoluble in water, it dissolves in mineral acids and complexing agents, making it versatile in various formulations including dusts, wettable powders, and pastes. In manufacturing, it is typically produced through the action of hydrochloric acid on copper metal or by the air oxidation of cuprous chloride suspensions.
