Industrial applications include the reduction of furfural to furfuryl alcohol, the transformation of butyraldehyde to 1-butanol, the partial reduction of conjugated dienes to monoenes, and the selective reduction of carbonyl groups in vegetable oils. Beyond these uses, this catalyst is explored in various catalytic applications, such as the hydrogenolysis of cellulose. Additionally, copper chromite is utilized in controlling combustion burn rates and as a light-absorbing pigment, owing to its distinctive black, tetragonal spinel crystal structure, formed through high-temperature calcination or thermal decomposition processes.
