Application
Cerium(IV) fluoride, a white to beige powder, serves multiple purposes in various chemical processes. It acts as a reactant in the synthesis of sodium-rare earth silicate oxide-fluoride apatites and in the fluorination of C60 using rare earth metal tetrafluorides. Additionally, it is essential for the synthesis of cerium(IV) fluoride compounds. As a reagent, it facilitates the fluorination of fluorocyclobutene through reactions with high-valency metal fluoride. Furthermore, Cerium(IV) fluoride is employed as a catalyst in the Hantzsch reaction and is useful in stain etching processes to create microporous silicon.
