This compound, which forms stable yellow crystals, is notable for its role in enhancing reaction rates at relatively mild conditions, such as 25°C, and achieving a highly favorable ratio of n- to iso-aldehydes compared to traditional cobalt catalysts, approximately 20:1. The catalyst's effectiveness is attributed to the dissociation of one phosphine ligand in solution, forming a 16-electron complex that facilitates not only hydroformylation but also other processes like hydrogenation, hydrosilation, isomerization, carbonylation, and oxidation.
