Application
Boron Sulfide serves a pivotal role in various chemical and electrical applications. As a white crystal or amorphous powder with a relative density of 1.55 and a melting point of 310℃, Boron Sulfide transforms into a sticky paste when heated. It decomposes in humid air and is slightly soluble in phosphorus trichloride and sulfur dichloride. Notably, it undergoes hydrolysis, yielding boric acid and hydrogen sulfide, and similarly decomposes upon contact with alcohol. In organic synthesis, Boron Sulfide is utilized to reduce sulfoxides to thiols and convert ketones to thioketones. Additionally, sulfide glasses formed with Boron Sulfide, such as M2S→B2S3 where M is Li or Na, exhibit electrical conductivities 103 times higher than their oxide counterparts. These electrically conductive glasses, which can incorporate LiI and other glass-forming sulfides, demonstrate significant potential as electrolytes in batteries and fuel cells.
