Application

Bis(6-methylheptyl) Phthalate serves primarily as a plasticizer, enhancing the flexibility and durability of various plastic products. This oily, colorless liquid has a slight ester odor and is insoluble in water but dissolves readily in organic solvents. Like its counterpart diisooctyl phthalate, it participates in chemical reactions with acids, producing isooctyl alcohol and phthalic acid. It reacts vigorously with strong oxidizing acids, which can be exothermic enough to ignite the reaction products, and generates heat upon contact with caustic solutions. Additionally, it can produce flammable hydrogen when mixed with alkali metals and hydrides and has the potential to create electrostatic charges.
